Sonoma County is a large California AVA established in 1982 under 27 CFR Part 9, encompassing a Pacific coastal range from Sonoma Valley in the south to the Alexander Valley in the north. Its diverse geography includes ocean-cooled coastal zones, warmer inland valleys, and redwood-forested ridgelines. It serves as the parent appellation for several nested sub-AVAs and generates substantial COLA label activity in the TTB registry.
