Columbia Valley

Columbia Valley is the principal AVA of eastern Washington, established in 1984 under 27 CFR Part 9, and extending into a portion of northern Oregon. The appellation lies east of the Cascade Mountains in the rain shadow, with hot summers and cold winters tempered by the Columbia River and its tributaries. It functions as the parent appellation for several Washington sub-AVAs and accounts for the majority of COLA filings from the state.
